Diablo III Won’t Have PvP at Launch To Stop Delays

Blizzard announced that the game will not have player vs player modes available when the game launches due to issues with complying to Blizzard’s standards. They plan to have it added in later via update. Read more about it after the jump.

Via GameTrailers:

But Blizzard doesn’t want to delay the next Diablo, originally announced in June 2008, any further. So it plans on patching in competitive multiplayer after Diablo III’s still unannounced release.

“After a lot of consideration and discussion, we ultimately felt that delaying the whole game purely for PvP would just be punishing to everyone who’s waiting to enjoy the campaign and core solo/co-op content, all of which is just about complete,” Wilson writes on the official Diablo III site. He calls the delay of PvP a “difficult decision.”

“When the PvP patch is ultimately ready, it will add multiple Arena maps with themed locations and layouts, PvP-centric achievements, and a matchmaking system that will help you and your team get into fairly matched games quickly and easily,” Wilson continues. “We’ll also be adding a personal progression system that will reward you for successfully bashing in the other team’s skulls.”
