Capcom Details Street Fighter X Tekken’s Year Long DLC Plans

Capcom detailed some of their plans on how they’ll be supporting and “adding” content to Street Fighter X Tekken throughout the year. Most of these are freebies, while paid content was also priced and detailed. Check out the details & my personal thoughts about these announcements after the jump.

Via Capcom Unity:

Hot on the heels of its March 6 release date, SFxT is about to kick off regular updates – meant to keep the experience fresh all through the year – with a blend of free and paid DLC. There’s a whole bunch o’ content coming, so let’s break it all down…

Up first on April 3 are Swap Costumes that take the “alternate costume” DLC idea one step further – instead of offering basic alts, these outfits cross the fashion line by dressing SF characters as Tekken characters and vice versa. See Raven dress as Guy, Cammy as King and uh, Kuma as R. Mika…(?)

Swap Costumes are available for $1.00 (80 Microsoft Points) each, or if you wanna dive in for the whole assortment you can pick up the Street Fighter or Tekken collection packs for $13.00 (1040 MSP) each – buying one pack saves $6.00, grabbing both saves $12.00. April 3 also brings three free color packs, each containing four new additions to the palette for added customization options. Topping off the April 3 additions are three new quick combos, making for a total of five pre-programmed attack patterns. While spamming these pre-set combos is tempting, don’t forget each use saps some of your Cross Gauge!

Shortly after those items arrive, look for a free tournament support title update that will add a new and faster way to select your gems from the versus screen via a dial system. We’ll actually run a live stream this Monday at 4pm PT to show off this update, so head to ourTwitch TV page for details. The tournament update will also include improvements to theonline sound issues discussed in Ayano-san’s earlier blog.

Looking just a few more weeks beyond the tournament support addition, the next big wave is a massive selection of free content delivered as a title update. This includes three new Assist Gem packs and six new Boost Gem packs, which add over 60 gems to the selection pool. This sizable infusion of new gems exponentially increases the customization options for every player, so we should see some interesting new loadouts once this DLC arrives. To that point, we’re also tossing in three more gem slots per character in which you can save your preferred loadouts. Finally, this update comes complete with a free replay analyzer, which enables you to dissect each fighters’ vital statistics.

The biggest additions come soon after the PlayStation Vita version launches later this year – the 12 characters debuting on Vita will come to consoles as a $20.00 (1600 MSP) bundle. I know many were worried past character pricing would push the cost of this update sky high, so I’m happy to say Blanka, Sakura, Guy, Cody, Elena, Dudley, Alisa, Bryan, Christie, Jack, Lars and Lei will not break the bank.

One additional note – the dev team is also already working on solutions to the infinite combos currently making the rounds on YouTube, and will have them patched up once these other updates are out the door.

For those who didn’t feel like reading this all, here’s a summary:

FREE
Nine new gem packs totaling 60+ new gems
Replay analyzer
Tournament support for gem selection
Three new quick combo pre-sets
Three additional gem loadout slots
Three new color packs with four colors each

PAID
Swap Costumes – $1.00 (80 MSP) each or in two $13.00 (1040 MSP) Street Fighter and/or Tekken packs
DLC characters – $20.00 (1600 MSP) for all 12 new fighters

My take on the matter:
I think allowing gems to be free DLC is one of the key aspects of maintaining equity between players out there. Also Capcom seem to finally understand how to offer costumes to their users. Previously, on SF4 and MvC3 titles, you’d have to buy a bundle which included maybe 1 costume that you wanted for a specific character. This forced you to buy costumes for other characters you didn’t want. This new individual purchase option should be fair. Also it came as a surprise that they’ll be charging $20 for 12 characters later this year, which seems like a huge improvement in pricing compared to MvC3’s $5 per character which was ridiculous.
It’s still, however, very dodgy because of the inclusion of these in the disc, while the Vita version would be the “almost complete edition”, priced at probably a lower price point compared to the console version. It’ll cost you $80 for the game + 12 characters while the Vita version of the same content could be priced around $40. With all that said, people who have not picked up the game yet could probably save up on a used copy and pick up the DLC later if they wanted to for a much cheaper price, knowing that the game would not require any online passes or any more “hidden expenses” for that matter.
Personally I would have only wanted to purchase the 12 characters DLC because of Lars, which is the only character I wanted from that bundle, so a single-character purchase option like the costumes would have been a better idea. But that’s how they get you, I guess.
The other stuff that come for free though are quite essential. Tournament patch is a necessity and the dial system to pick gems sound interesting, and would like to see how much time it saves for tourneys. Also the inclusion of colors and replay analysis tools are a welcome addition. Finally, patching some of the crazy shenanigans the community have been finding such as infinites and bugs are a necessity, and Capcom responded promptly to this issue.

If people were ok with gems and they wouldn’t mind buying them then they would have made it for sale, LOOL. But because of the negative outcome of them and everybody not supporting the idea let alone pay for it, they made it free. If only some gamers take that to the DLC characters then we could see the DLC characters made free, which is what i am hoping for the sake of gamers and people that love fighting games. Sadly, this is not the issue because some people (no offence to them) are ok to be ripped off by them, i mean seriously clothes, colors, characters on disk is valuable and justifiable DLC? (Also, i heard the clothes and colors are all on disk, lol, don’t know if it true or not though)

Those 13 – 20$ could go to any indie developer and it would be a much better investment or heck it could go to projects on kickstarter which is as good as indie games available now. Those stuff could easily be as unlockables and in a fighting game IT should be a MUST.

Where did the days of playing a fighting game and finishing it on multiple difficulties or do other special tasks to earn the hidden locked players/colors/customes? Bottom line is buying a capcom fighting game is like buying half the disk and then completing the rest of it by buying the DLC’s whenever they release them when stuff like this could be EASILY implemented when they are doing the game, it doesn’t seem to take much time for them to make new fighting games, lol.

Heck, the fans are the ones that do alll the work by finding glitches and everything. Only for them to put it all in one patch and call it arcade edition but to sell it they add in a few characters oo mode just so they could justify a price tag on it, instead of patching it for free. However you could say that more than a year has passed and its ok for them to do another rendition of the game with updates which to that i agree to but its easily to make the patches free just like many other games out there so why would they price it :S What is mind boggling is that they are ok with not fixing the issue of 360 not having local co-op online play while the PS3 has. They say its a system madree sheno issue while mortal kombat is doing it ok with no problems, so what’s their excuse? my guess is that they dont want to pay microsoft thousands of dollars for a patch because they are cheapskates….unless they made the patch for money? oh no oh no no no crapcom i didnt mean to say it no no no dont make it NOOOOOOO!!11

In the end people should put their money where their mouth is, if people and all gamers are really sick of all this shit then simple just don’t support it like what i have been doing for years now. But, thats the problem, the people not willing to risk and not willing to buy any DLC from capcom are so low that they don’t affect their revenue(They know the big fighting fans for them to be in the now and up to date majbooreen they pay and since they know majbooreen 5ala9 they will keep doing that unless everyone “Really” stops oo mo bas bel kalam). If they did stop then we would have seen change a long time ago and for me perosnally, i’d get the Vita version because atleast i’ll pay for a “Complete” game. la oo cheaper b3ad.

Bel nahaya they don’t deserve that money, many other inde developers and games deserve it, heck, hal al3ab are now new 20$ and less!

Not to mention the countless PSN/XBLA titles.

I’d buy any or all of these wala ashtery wala DLC men crapcom. Stupid 30 – 100KB dlc’s LOL. All of those games combined yesowoon all their fighting games and more.

If people want REAL DLC’s check out rockstar and their games. All their DLC are not on Disk, come out months later after the original game and their original game men nafsa is jam packed with stuff not to mention reasonably priced.
