seems like 12 new characters!
ALL BUT CONFIRMED:
Strider Hiryu
“All I know is dat shit will be goin’ clockw0rk, hype bitches cuz he be comin’ for ya neo”
- A reference to Clockw0rk, a notable player of MvC3 who played against another player Neo in a money match. Clockw0rk played Strider/Doom/Sentinel
Lupinko snuck a silhouette of Strider into one of his twitpics.
Phoenix Wright
“なるほど、ハイプになるだよ!(`_´)ゞ”
- Roughly translates to: Phoenix Wright’s name in Japanese followed by HYPE and what looks like a little dude pointing.
more after the break!Chuck Greene or Frank West? Doesn’t matter, it’s an easy model swap. [GameFAQs theory of whether it’s Chuck or Frank; possibly invalidated by Lupinko being unsure himself]
- Just around the release of MvC3, it was found that Frank West and Dr. Octopus folders were listed in the directories containing character files on the MvC3 retail disc. No textures, models, animations, sounds or artwork were found on the disc. [Source]
“You know combining orange juice and chocolate milk actually makes a great drink, I recommend it, gives you the boost and nutrition”
- Refers to a recipe in Dead Rising that combines Orange Juice and Milk. [Source]
Apocalypse
“I’m as far beyond master chibi as he is far beyond you
I am eternal
Your detective skills are useless against me
Annoying insects
I cannot be harmed
Watch me and tremble, for I bring the purity of oblivion to your world
My beautiful cryptic devices, the chibi filth has soiled things”
- All of these are direct quotes from Apocalypse (altered with some references to an SRK member Master Chibi) in the 90s X-Men anime, and can be found in this video
Also, Lupinko tweeted this. and linked several Apocalypse videos.
Jubilee
“”fuck, keep in mind, i don’t have yellow fever, i just know a hot girl when i see one” @Barlog_WINS , 2011″
- Yellow Fever is a reference to a particular liking to Asian women, and Jubilee happens to be Chinese. Also could be an obvious reference to Jubilee’s classic yellow jacket she wore.
“We all know Alysson Court is the one true Jubilee (and Claire Redfield!), Catherine Disher, Cedric Smith, Lawrence Bayne, I could go on & on”
- Direct reference of Jubilee. Makes Jubilee a questionable leak due to the crypticness of the rest of the riddles, but falls in line with lupinko saying he threw us a bone.
“My need to feed”
“I gotta find it fast”
“To keep me alive”
- Vampire-ish talk. Jubilee is currently in vampiric form in the comics.
“No more freebies going forward.”
- Immediately after saying he threw us a bone recently in the thread, people guessed Jubilee and within 15 posts lupinko replied with this, suggesting he practically gave this one away.
- First mention recently of character a character that would be cool as an inclusion in MvC3. Notably, before Sentinel’s official announcement for inclusion in MvC3, the official MvC3 twitter also made tweets about Sentinel.
“sup bitches, all i got 2 say is dat dis is one reddest motherfucker, gaddaymn
non-parental advisory version: someone very red
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V-je6hkGoL0 ”
- Asura is indeed very red, and the video link quotes Star Trek’s Wrath of Khan, putting the two pieces together it would imply that Asura is in the game.
LEADS: (organized by likelihood)
Venom
“time to sleep, and no, i will not rely on mr sandman, haha man this has been some night”
- Not relying on Sandman may be a reference to Spiderman 3 where Venom requested his assistance in taking down Spiderman. [Source]
“Hey does anyone remember the movie babe? the one about the talking pig? that was a good movie, james cromwell was dope in it”
- James Cromwell plays Captain Stacey in Spiderman 3. [Source]
“The most recent message may not look like anything but it is indeed related to the recent bits of info. If you watched a certain show in the late 90s based on a phenomenon that was thought to be originally a fad. It will all become more clear to you.
three unrelated people @ lolgamefaqs if pieced together, pulled a Dave Kujan

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CSlMI…A5E1FFBF2742B3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9Srh6pyyFs ”
- The 4kids dub of Pokemon often referred to Rice Balls as jelly donuts. The first link is Niitsuma, the producer of MvC3, eating 12 Jelly donuts. lupinko eventually gave this away by linking directly to this in the third link. Additionally, although I can’t find it at the moment, someone on SRK noted that the donuts video was uploaded the same day Viper was announced, creating a vague link through the words viper and venom.[Source]
- At the height of the guessing, lupinko mentioned “Sigh, go to page 39.”. On Page 39 of this thread at GameFAQs we find guesses as to which character inclusion he is teasing, implying someone got it here. On this page we find the connection between Pokemon and the donuts, as well as a connection to Eddie Brock because he always made the rice balls in the original 90s anime, which was considered to be a fad at first.[Source]
“just remember the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.
in this case, a message didn’t exist
so you can say maybe, medium is the message
hmm, I wonder if Sid the Kid will be the same after that concussion of his”
- Lupinko mentioned that all of these tweets are related. Sid the Kid, is a nickname for Sidney Crosby, a Canadian hockey player that plays for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
- In reference to the medium tweets, it is possible that as he’s not revealing the message, and so because it doesn’t exist, medium is the message.
“the buds, the rags, the pens, and the sabres?”
- This tweet refers to four hockey teams that Tim Horton, a Canadian and founder of Tim Hortons, was a defenseman for: The Maple Leafs, Rangers, Penguins and Sabres.
“hahaha, this is still awesome yugiohabridged.com/page-ep48 ”
- Also mentioned on page 39, is someone identifying the episode of Abridged there as Penguin Ex Machina. A connection to the Penguins, a team Tim Horton played for. However this tweet was later removed because it overcomplicated things.
“one of the best to ever play http://twitpic.com/5mvuuu ”
- Was a reference to go to page 39 in the Gamefaqs thread for the answer. Coincidentally 3+9=12.
“lol canucks can’t live without this http://twitpic.com/5mvxe5”
- A picture of an Ice Cap, sold at Tim Hortons all across Canada. For the uninformed, Canucks = Canadians. At this point, Tim Horton is an important central theme. From his wikipedia, it is noted he died on Twelve Mile Creek (reference to the 12), and on the Creek’s wiki page, one of the references is Brock University. Eddie Brock. Venom.
Vergil
“Hey does anyone remember the movie babe? the one about the talking pig? that was a good movie, james cromwell was dope in it”
- James Cromwell voiced Virgil in the 2007 Dante’s Inferno film.
“speaking of the late tony jay, he was also virgil and megabyte! not to mention having a role in twins”
- A reference to Tony Jay voicing Virgil the Lemurian in the Mighty Max TV series, and Tony Jay voicing Megabyte in the DmC reboot. Virgil and Dante are twins. [Source]
Doctor Octopus
- Just around the release of MvC3, it was found that Frank West and Dr. Octopus folders were listed in the directories containing character files on the MvC3 retail disc. No textures, models, animations, sounds or artwork were found on the disc. [Source]
“just remember, imma continue to use my playa hatin’ degree, so watch out mofos”
- The playa hatin’ degree bit can be interpreted as a reference to a Ph.D or a doctorate, as a reference to Doctor Octopus. [Source]
“Hey does anyone remember the movie babe? the one about the talking pig? that was a good movie, james cromwell was dope in it”
- James Cromwell voiced Captain Stacey in Spiderman 3, who was killed off by Doctor Octopus in the comics. [Source]
Mephisto
“sup bitches, all i got 2 say is dat dis is one reddest motherfucker, gaddaymn
non-parental advisory version: someone very red”
- Mephisto is indeed very, very red.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rt59r…eature=related ”
- Bruce Campbell was in all three of the Spiderman films, and Mephisto is a Spiderman villain.
“The greatest trick the devil ever did was convincing the world he didn’t exist”
- This statement could be a reference if Spiderman is the “he.” Mephisto is the one who made it so everyone forgot Spiderman was Peter Parker after he revealed his identity. [Source]
- All the references to Ghost rider may have just been allusions to Mephisto, as Ghost Rider is one of his minions.[Source]
Rogue
“what a great line to jam to in the mornin’, “can’t get you outta my head like kylie minogue”, ah fun times”
- “Can’t get you outta my head” is something Rogue apparently says often in reference to her having Ms. Marvel in her head. Also, Rogue rhymes with Minogue. [Source]
“speaking of old marvel casts, lenore zahn is amazing as is richard fucking grieco aka best ghost rider ever as he killed galactus so hard”
- Lenore Zahn is a former voice actor for Rogue. [Source]
MegaMan Starforce
“Let me hit you with the ryuusei sound This is how it goes down
We back again in the LAB now To turn it out
We gon get you out your seats now Y’all know what’s it all ’bout”
- An M-Flo lyric and therefore possibly not a leak. However, the bit about the sound is possibly a reference to the Starforce series which is based upon sound waves/frequencies. [Source]
- Ryuusei no Rockman is the Japanese name for Megaman Starforce. [Source]
“so i was wondering, do they still make jello commercials? i mean isn’t it amazing that there green and blue and all other wacky colours
of jello? it’s like some sort of wizardry or something like dat”
- As pointed out in the source, Wizards exist in the Star Force Universe, such as Omega-Xis, who is green and blue. Omega-Xis EM Wave changes into Megaman Starforce. It is also of note that Megaman Starforce is blue and his buster is green. [Source]
Dr. Strange/Mandarin
“just remember, imma continue to use my playa hatin’ degree, so watch out mofos”
- The playa hatin’ degree bit can be interpreted as a reference to a Ph.D or a doctorate, as a reference to Dr. Strange. [Source]
“so i was wondering, do they still make jello commercials? i mean isn’t it amazing that there green and blue and all other wacky colours
of jello? it’s like some sort of wizardry or something like dat”
- Due to the inclusion of Dr. Strange villains in the game already, people are pointing towards Dr. Strange because of the reference to Wizardry and his colourful use of magic. However, Mandarin and Mysterio have also notably rocked Blue and Green colour schemes (as well as purple and other jello-y colours).
Additionally, MasterChibi on SRK mentioned that one of Gill, Mysterio or Dr. Strange is in the game.
Ghost Rider
“hahaha, this is still awesome yugiohabridged.com/page-ep48
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hx8ob0BAkOs
just remember the greatest trick the Devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.”
- Chindogg’s summary is concise so I’ll quote the entire thing:
I’ll copy what I wrote in SRK to conclude what I considered before everyone went apeshit over Sigma.
This is a stretch but here me out. Lupinko mentioned that the answer is on page 39, presumably on Gamefaqs, where there’s mention of a Yugioh episode “Penguin Ex Machina.” Penguin Ex Machina is very similar to Deus Ex Machina, a thing that seemingly solves a problem out of nowhere when an insolvable problem happens. In an earlier tweet, Lupinko posts a youtube video of the Fantastic Four fighting Galactus, seemingly unbeatable, until Ghost Rider shows up and beats him down with the Penance Stare within 20sec.
Also, notice all the hockey references in the tweets. There’s actually a Minor League hockey team the Fernie Ghostriders. In an earlier tweet also, Lupy makes a reference to the Devil. Ghost Rider originally gained his powers from the Devil before Marvel retconned it into Mephisto. Given this information, I am concluding that Ghost Rider is what he’s been alluding to for most of the day.[Source]- Note that lupinko later clarified that the Penguin Ex Machina tweet was removed because of overcomplication and not being the one he was referring to.
“eat your heart out nic cage, all bow down to the real fucking ghost rider http://t.co/jMNsgVc richard fucking grieco”
- An explicit mention of Ghost Rider, we got one for Jubilee before, but were told there would be no more freebies.
“hmm, I wonder if Sid the Kid will be the same after that concussion of his”
- Someone going by the name Sid the Kid makes custom Ghost Rider Mighty Muggs. [Source]
“lol canucks can’t live without this http://twitpic.com/5mvxe5”
- It is noted that the Fernie Ghostriders have a Tim Horton player of the week, this is a picture of an Ice Cap sold by Timmies. [Source]
Gambit
- Tim Hortons commercial celebrating hockey as it brings together millions of Canadians. Featuring a lot of hockey sticks. Gambit wields a Bo staff, a kind of stick. Additionally, Taylor Kitsch who played Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, is Canadian. [Source]
“You should all abandon chibi as he is only one of the horsemen http://twitpic.com/5ms4gb ”
- Gambit was notably one of Apocalypse’s 4 horsemen, as Death.
“The most recent message may not look like anything but it is indeed related to the recent bits of info. If you watched a certain show in the late 90s based on a phenomenon that was thought to be originally a fad. It will all become more clear to you.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9Srh6pyyFs ”
- These tweets were in reference to Pokemon. In the late 90s, Pokemon cards were a worldwide phenomenon, and turned out to be way more than just a fad.
Batsu Ichimonji
“don’t be a foo and stay in schoo”
- Reference to Rival Schools, the series Batsu comes from.
“Let me hit you with the ryuusei sound This is how it goes down”
- An M-Flo lyric and therefore possibly not a leak. One of Batsu’s moves is the Ryuusei Kick. [Source]
@FabsRubio wut? i just throw things real hella far
- lupinko replied to someone asking if any of the new characters have the stones (Powerstone) with this. Via Karsticles’ wrap up, this is possibly a hint at Shoma Sawamura as he has a fast ball move with infinite range. [Source]
“trying to see if something old fits in the car engine, wonder how that would work out
personally for this kind of matter, going old skool may sound interesting but could be pulled off wrong”
- Possibly a reference to putting someone from the old Rival Schools series, or TvC into MvC3 and it’s engine that could be pulled off wrong as they don’t play the same.
Cable
“Get ready to die cause it’s gonna get rough”
- Cable is known for saying “Time to get Rough” in his MvC2 incarnation.
“And in my mind
I’m a, blind man doin’ time Look to my future
cause my past is all behind me
Is it a crime to fight for what is mine”
- 2pac lyrics from Only God Can Judge Me that can be interpreted as a reference to Cable’s backstory revolving around time travel and fighting for the world’s and his own survival.
“too bad that guy didn’t allow john to get dem aids, smh no more aegis reflector
whoops my bad, loljohn, more like loljames”
- First things first, MasterChibi explicitly stated that these tweets were in reference to the opposite of anything thus far, and therefore a disconfirmation of a character. This is very important, because it suggests Cable is disconfirmed.
- Okay this one is huge, and there were so many people guessing so many things everywhere so I’ll just summarize without going into a massive amount of detail. Lupinko corrected his first tweet with the second, meaning that “this guy” didn’t allow James to get the aids in time. James Howlett is the birth name of Wolverine.
- Aegis Reflector is one of Urien’s moves in SF3. Urien and Cable share a voice actor. Lawrence Bayne. “No more Aegis Reflector” may mean no more Cable.
- In this video, we see Cable preventing Wolverine from getting aid from Bishop after Wolverine got knocked into the techno-organic virus by Apocalypse. Possibly being the final nail in the coffin for Cable’s disconfirmation. The general consensus is that Cable is the one who’s been disconfirmed. crimsonspider89 summed it up alternatively here as well.
COLD TRAILS:
Daredevil
“And in my mind
I’m a, blind man doin’ time Look to my future
cause my past is all behind me
Is it a crime to fight for what is mine”
- 2pac lyrics from Only God Can Judge Me coinciding with references to Daredevil being blind, with the mention of crime possibly being a reference to Daredevil. It is important to note that MvC3 leaks suggested that Elektra was cut from the game to keep sides balanced when Frank West was cut, and that’s why The Hand’s Hideout stage looks out of place in the retail game without representing characters, especially after Niitsuma stated that each stage would have some connection to a character in the game. [Source]
Roll
“dat robochick would give anyone dat h.a.r.d.a.c”
- Roll is the most likely reference here, because she is the only robotic female that comes to mind, however, the HARDAC and Batman:TAS references surrounding this tweet seem to imply a deeper reference that hasn’t been cracked yet.
- Apparently Niitsuma has been seen recently with Roll’s VA.
Megaman X
“dat blade runner
fun fact, william sanderson pretty much played the same character in both blade runner and batman tas :D”
- It is noted in the source that the Megaman X plot and Blade Runner’s share similarities. The robochick tweet was tweeted around the same time as these, potentially having a connection. [Source]
Cyclops
“Get ready to die cause it’s gonna get rough”
- “Get ready to die” is a Urien quote, and “Time to get rough” is a Cable one. The source points out that both Urien and Cable share the same voice actor, Lawrence Bayne. The only other two VAs he did were for Erik the Red and Fabian Cortez, with Erik the Red once being a secret identity for Scott Summers, or Cyclops. [Source1] [Source2]
No Gene :( me sad!
