Wow this is awesome, congrats on the purchase!
As for me I am extremely worried about this game. I am a huge Max Payne fan and I am worried Rockstar turns it into a GTA clone. I hope not. I am planning on playing it on PC but I wanna “try” it first to see if they deliver or just ignore it entirely and pretend it never existed.
It’s amazing. The gameplay, controls and especially the presentation, story, physics + voice acting, really good, infact i can’t decide weather it’s these three or the gameplay and controls that are really good. The only disappointing thing about the game is that it’s not as dark and gritty as the previous titles were, especially with the surreal experiences in MP 1 & 2 however, it still is dark and gritty but not as much as it was before.
All in all its a superb game, very fun and rest assured, it’s a much much more smoother experience then lets say GTA or RDR where you feel the weight of the character when you move.
Okay, since you’ve already played it I’ll ask a few questions:
Are there any elements of a sandbox design? Do you need to ride vehicles to get to an objective for example? Max Payne games were linear and focused on story and immediate action which is what I loved.
Any sign of a sandbox setting is a total no-no to me.
How does the music fair in this game compared to the previous games? The music gave a very eerie vibe to the story-telling which made the older games amazing. I’d like to know.
Nope, Its a linear, story driven game through and through just like the previous titles (It’s chapter based + you can choose any chapter you want as long as you finished them and choose which checkpoint you want to start with in the level itself so, it’s very convenient), infact the presentation and camera work here is miles better than the original, but that’s because we have so much tech today to play with. Only thing disappointing as i said is that it’s not as dark and gritty as the old one, MP 1 and 2 felt sometimes like a horror game because of the atmosphere, you could almost feel the winter in the game, lol. Not to mention the supernatural elements or let’s say dream sequences which helped making the games way darker than it already is.
Here while it’s very violent, gritty and Max’s voice actor delivering the lines amazingly you could sense the dark and gritty atmosphere of the game, but the old games were much more darker and grittier. Max Payne 3 feels like Die hard, Man on fire and Taken (Liam Neeson not Steven Spielbergs Taken, lol) all got together and formed one game. Rest assured, there isn’t any sandbox element in the game and the controls are much smoother than GTA IV and Read dead redemption, way way smoother. It also has many set-pieces ranging from good to great.
The original theme is still there infact it plays in the opening of the game and it’s really really nostalgic. Aside from that music i don’t think MP 1 & 2 had memorable songs except for the theme song (And when Max had nightmares) the rest were just intense action music as it is in Max Payne 3 from what i played so far. I have the soundtrack of the game but i can’t download it since the site where it says to redeem the code is going to open on May 17th so i can’t judge the soundtrack in it’s entirety. From what i played, the soundtrack suits the game, doesn’t feel out of place but it’s the theme song (no surprise) that is very memorable and is something to write home about.
If you are interested in seeing the opening of the game (there is two Openings one before the main menu and one after so the one before it is non-spoiler-ific) then do so, to get a feel of the presentation and tone of the game.

Thanks a ton man, feels reassuring to read all that. I’ll wait to try the PC version later this month then. I’ll definitely give my 2 cents about it in a future Dewaniya podcast.
Welcome anytime. Yeah, the 360 version looks stunning, im betting the PC version will really impress especially since they are using 2K textures for the game

But for me, i don’t think i could wait 2 weeks + download a 30GB game i am guessing since it’s stated they need 30GB of space, lol. So far, from what i played, it indeed is THE best 3rd person shooter so far. Rockstar raised the standard for 3rd person shooters. I don’t know now how other TPS will fair out now that this game is out. Still, i’d like to get it just to see how it will look on PC.
I’ll check it out on PC and let you know. Why do I still have this weird feeling about this game though…
Don’t worry, It is amazing. Sets a standard for TPS games thanks to the controls and physics of the game. I await for more people to play the game and give their impressions about it. Oh, the killing and shooting also feels extremely satisfying. Best of all, it feels like Max Payne, it is Max Payne.
Max Payne is next on my list :D
Maxpayne enshalla! the limited edition looks cool bas am gonna pass this one.
also I would love to try Diablo.. but am not into MMO’s that much..
will give it a shot if I had the chance.
Played the game more and i gotta say, the soundtrack is a beast. Just typed in the code and got the soundtrack. All the tracks should be on youtube sometime today, however, i managed to find some with a download link to the full soundtrack. I gotta say, i am blown away, most if not all are in the game by the way. I’ll leave you guys to be the judge.

But, the soundtrack as a whole is incredible (The full album is 25 tracks). A description from Rockstar about the band “Health” ” The original soundtrack and score for Max Payne 3 is composed by HEALTH, the L.A. noise band whose non-symmetrical sounds have garnered critical acclaim from the music press around the world. Mixing in their percussive undertones and synth effects, HEALTH has created the stirring sounds that reflect Max’s gnarly mental state. They discard conventional balanced compositions and inject their signature melancholy noise pop into a score that adjusts between Max Payne 3’s transitions of real-time and flashbacks to cut-scenes and gunplay, giving each their own feel. “
Ok, something went wrong and everything got smashed together in the last paragraph, let me fix it.
