Via Side Mission:
Alongside the confirmation that a new Super Mario game will be announced at E3, a recent interview via Spanish newspaper El Mundo contained this quote from Shigeru Miyamoto with regard to a new Pikmin game:
“I’m working on several projects but I think that I cannot talk about them all [laughs]. Some are small but important projects for Wii U. Also on a new Pikmin, which will take advantage of the new HD screen resolution, and on Luigi’s Mansion for 3DS.”
Gameinformer later received this bit of context from Nintendo:
“In a recent interview, Mr. Miyamoto confirmed that a new Pikmin game will be shown at the E3 Expo in June,” Nintendo said. “He believes that anyone who has played Pikmin games in the past will enjoy playing.”
There have been inklings about a new Pikmin game for some time, including this story from February in which Mr. Miyamoto talked about Pikmin and the Wii U.
“Originally, I was making Pikmin 3 would be launched on the Wii platform,” Miyamoto said. “Because the Wii U is capable of HD quality pictures, and will be accompanied by the subscreen on your hand, I thought that I would be able to make a Pikmin that was closer to my ideal. I am now actually enjoying myself, working on the game.”
