Itagaki’s “Devil’s Third” is in Deep Trouble

Ninja Gaiden creator, Tomonobu Itakagi, left Tecmo Koei to make a new studio called Valhalla and work on a new IP, later to be published by THQ. THQ is in deep financial problems and this puts Itagaki’s game on hold, nay, up for sale. More after the break.

Via Side Mission:

Devil’s Third, helmed by ex-Tecmo and Team Ninja designer Tomonobu Itagaki and his Valhalla Game Studios, will go up for sale to the highest bidder. THQ said in a financial briefing that the project suffered several serious setbacks and no longer fit their “profitability profile.”

Joystiq reported that THQ president and CEO Brian Farrell said in a conference call that one of the biggest setbacks occurred with the engine Valhalla chose for the game that went out of business during development. Farrell said THQ had to help find a new engine for the game, which “took a fair amount of time and cost a fair amount of money.”

The value of Japan’s Yen also greatly restricted the game’s ability to make a profit compared with other THQ projects. The company instead decided to put the project up for sale to “make sure this product comes to market.”
