Namco Bandai announced a free to play PS3 title called Gundam Battle Operation. It is a 3rd person shooter set in the Gundam world (One Year War era if I’m not mistaken) and features 6 vs 6 online multiplayer. Trailer and more info after the break!

As detailed yesterday, Battle Operation will be released in June as an online exclusive. The game will make use of an item transaction system, and will be free to download and play.
Namco Bandai will hold a closed beta test for 10,000 people from March 29 through March 31. Access the game’s newly opened official site for details.

My take on this game:
Namco Bandai experimented with this idea before in a game called Gundam: Operation Troy, which was an Xbox 360 exclusive and was only released in Japan. It didn’t do very well as far as I remember but it had very interesting mechanics and looked similar to this game. In comparison, this one seems more polished, and the fact that it’ll be free to play will set an example for other Japanese developers to follow.
