Is it true that games affect other games’ scores? A first game of a franchise gets the score of 9.0, and then when its sequel doesn’t present something “new” it’s given scores around 8.0. even though the game is not worse than the first, not by any means. Not only that, sometimes games that present the same thing (Example: Grand Theft Auto IV and Red Dead Redemption) and the former gets 10.0 while the latter gets the score of 9.0. Why? Because when GTAIV came out it blew our minds, it showed us things we have never seen before, it gave us something new, but when RDR, it was 2010! When it came out we’ve already experienced the same gameplay before and our standards got higher. I bet if RDR came first it would have gotten the score of 10! Do you agree with me?
Game standards are getting higher and higher without us realizing it, I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, I’m just saying that it’s happening so rapidly! Have seen graphics of games back in 2006 and today? It’s really amazing how a few years made this difference. I think the only way a sequel can get a higher score than the original game is by fixing the down points that existed in the first game and add something… a special twist to makes the sequel a sequel. I know you’ve been sick from how much I’ve been talking about Resident Evil LOL! But I would like to present 1 example about it:
As some of you might be aware, Resident Evil 2 was going to be something else. Something completely different from the Resident Evil 2 we all know. It was going to have another character named Elza Walker.
Capcom went back to the drawing board at the near end of finishing this game, and ditched this version of RE2 (now named Resident Evil 1.5) The reason? Shinji Mikami thought it was too similar to RE1, and it didn’t deliver something new, therefore he scrapped this version and made a completely new RE2 which was a huge success. RE2 was the best selling RE game on the PSOne.
Remember how Assassin’s Creed’s graphics blew our minds away? After what I have seen from what Unreal Engine 3 is capable of doing, our standards will never be the same (if you haven’t seen a preview already, YouTube Unreal Engine 3)
Do you agree or disagree? Provide examples of games you think will raise our standards or have already did that :D

SF4 raised the fighting game quality standard I have!
Little Big Planet 2 and the amazing user generated levels made me realize how games will be different in the coming years!
Steam as a service added a lot to the experience I have with my games acting like a social hub.
Monster Hunter gave me the console quality of a multiplayer game on a handheld!
Professor Layton gave me a new experience that I want to have on my handheld at all times!
I can go on and on and on….
This is one reason why i don’t trust reviewers anymore, even the most popular sites out there like Gamespot and IGN etc. Each have his/her own way to review the games. I do believe that standards are getting higher, and they should. Because software technology is always advancing, so it makes sense for a game to have better graphics for its sequel.
its normal for the “Game standards” to get higher..Graphics are better, editing is becoming more and more awsome..Direction and so forth….other elements which i think might have an affect to that is that regardless of the expansion of the gaming society, gamers are picky in buying their games cuz prices are higher etc… so how can u become picky in buying a game? raise ur standards to pick the best one + competition is increasing between game developers, so they r feeding the High needs of the gamers.. like a loop hole
give us money (game developers)–> we give u a good game (game developers) –> we give u money for this game (gamers) –> but we need a better one 2morrow (gamers)
