Great episode guys, I would like to point out on something really quick: with regards to the game mechanic in Thief where you can shoot out light sources, it was heavily borrowed years later by the Splinter Cell series. In fact, they even had the same mechanics Thief used for stealth such as a light meter and sound meter.
To take out the lights in Splinter Cell, you could shoot them with a silenced gun, which can be spotted by guards if you weren’t careful. Another way introduced a jamming gadget which could jam electronic currents at objects you point it at for a short while and is harder to detect by the enemies.
Thief laid out the foundations for excellent stealth games so we really need to be thankful for these efforts. The same can be said to the other new ideas in gaming today. A good example I would like to share is an indie game called Limbo. The game is in black and white, a platformer with puzzle solving features but the revolutionary part of it is the artwork. Try to find a video of it you’ll understand what I meant. It’s on Xbox 360 right now.
