Okay I’ll try to make a short clarification of some things.
In Japan, the simple rule about the usage of copyrighted materials in indie games is like this: If you sell your indie product for the price of the raw materials (papers, CDs, etc) we will keep a blind eye about it. If you ask us for permission, we will not give it to you nor we will prohibit you. It is in the gray zone of the laws.
Writer Kinoko Nasu and artist Takashi Takeuchi formed an indie circle called Type Moon back in 1998. They made the visual novels Tsukihime and Fate/Stay Night. Another group named French Bread (Japanese people, don’t ask) made the indie fighting game Melty Blood based on Tsukihime. And finally, Ecole Software company adapted the game into a fully-commercial arcade/ps2 game.
Touhou a series of vertical-scrolling barrage indie shooting games with 3 indie fighting games spin-offs. The game is like our classical plane shooting games but with MUCH greater complexity of incoming bullets, just hit youtube and enter “Touhou lunatic” in the search and check any game play video. The amazing part of this game is the long legacy of this franchise (since 1998) and the fact that it was made by a single person for all these years. It has the largest, wildest and craziest fan-base in the gaming history. Hell, they were even making whole conventions for remixes and arranged albums of its OSTs.
In general, a nice episode guys but it wasn’t as long as I expected :/ You should’ve dragged your Riot Specialist for more action!
